Arthur Tress was born on November 24, 1940 in Brooklyn New York. He took his first photographs when he was 12. Attended Bard College to study painting, art history, world culture and philsophy, but still continued to photograph and make short motion picture films. He currently lives in sweden and works as a photographer for Stockholm Ethnographic Museum.
I really like the perspective of his "Open Space" Pictures. The first picture is especially powerful in black and white. The water looks so cold and the person looks so upset. The tiny bit of fog also really adds to the atmosphere. The second photo again has a really cool perspective. The inclusion of people seems not as up front as the previous picture, but it still adds a human element to the photograph. The third photograph is awesome for just its sheer size. It is overwhelming seeing all of the tombstones and then the city in the background. The framing of this photograph is astounding.
